The ghost in the city
There is no city without technology, and there is no city without ghosts. The theory of Hauntology points out that the past of a city still exists in our space like a ghost, clinging to our objects and affecting people’s lives. The research question of the project is how we can look for the past in modern cities and how our understanding of the past will change under the influence of technology. Archaeology is often used to explore the past, and archaeological records are preserved in language. Through the analysis of the evolution of language, the project finds that our language is constantly changing under the influence of times and technology. With the development of technology, we rely more and more on the Internet, and the popularity of Internet slang also marks the beginning of people’s understanding of the world in a new language. Based on this, it is speculated that people will enter a post-illiterate age in the future, and language will become more descriptive and intuitive. However, people’s understanding of things has also changed because of technological changes. The purpose of this project is to use language as a method to explore how to infer the past from the modern city, so as to stimulate dialogue between the past and the present, and to reflect the different perceptions of the past generated by people under the influence of technology.
