This project wants to study the changes and trends in the design of entertainment under the continuous prosperity of the single economy. Because of the continuous changes in work styles and online communities and the awakening of people’s self-awareness, part of the development of the online community has eased people’s feelings of being alone, and large-scale social activities are no longer a necessity.
These phenomena also caused some social problems. During Covid-19, people who cannot go out and focus more time on social media, become more extreme and paranoid than before. People can easily judge some people or things by misleading information on the internet. Many people are surrounded by social media group emotions and lose their ability to think independently. When we use social software, we easily repost the opinion from some KOL. Have we seriously thought about it? Every extreme point of consensus has a strong potential for violence, and people unconsciously become the perpetrators of cyber violence. In the public opinion argument environment of the “post-truth” era, in the era of smart media that has long been housed in an “echo chamber” built from similar information, people lacks the ability to think independently and make rational judgments.
People need solitude. When people are just thinking alone, their thinking belongs to themselves; when we are surrounded by ideas with group emotion or secondary processing, we will instinctively imitate the opinions and ideas of others. So how can we keep our thinking independently? Single-player games, especially text adventure games, used to be the completely self-thinking and self-selected experience. It is a very ego and undisturbed field. However, the current trend is a variety of puzzle-solving strategies, spoiler barrage appears randomly in the game. More players are no longer willing to play games by themselves, and more choose to watch youtuber videos online, losing the process of solving puzzles and choosing in person.
With the continuous development of AR and VR technology, the real game space has increasingly become a space that can bring people entertainment, inspiration, and thinking. Today, when the single economy is constantly being mentioned, reducing inertial thinking, keep independent thinking, and forming a logical cognitive structure to make rational judgments are still things people continue to pursue but it is difficult to achieve. This project relies on the way of realizing single-player text adventure games, hoping to make some excellent stories full of reversals through a multi-layer narrative method to enable players to optimize their way of thinking, independent thinking, and rational analysis in the game experience. I hope that players by challenging the game, know how easy it is to cheat people by playing with text trap, and understand that the angle of a thing is complex and multi-faceted, not black and white. In a group environment, you can follow the consensus less but think more.
