Boyi Zhou comes from China. She has background and a Bachelor degree in Furniture and Product Design. Through her placement year working as a Visual and Merchandising designer in IKEA, she has gained an interest in spatial design. Therefore, she determined to conduct her master studies in Interior Design at The Glasgow School of Art.
“Virtual space design: an exploration of future living space” is her graduate project, which aims to investigate the future living environment under the influence of rapid development of internet and technologies. The final outcome constructed a future community in modular design. There are five main modules: Entrance, Information Center, Entertainment Center, Working Area and Living Area. Each part is important and indispensible. In this vertical structure, this community could extend upward continuously to adapt to the flexible populations. People could realize everything in this community without moving to anywhere, which means the reduction of fuel costs, pollution, time wasted, transport infrastructures and so on. Thus, this project also has a close link to green cities and smart cities.
