My major project, RIPPLE, is a dynamic cushion with incremental haptic feedback for sedentary behaviour. It could trigger the user to get up from seat regularly through the gradually rising bumps from its surface. Compared to the current way of reminding (such as phone alarm), this kind of ambient feedback is likely to interrupt the workflow of the user.
To achieve this function, I developed a non-electrical structure with air cell, flow control valve and foam spring. When the user sits on it, the seat will drop with the air released slowly. After a certain time, the seat will contact the bumps, which provide an incremental stimulation to the user. After the user gets up, the air cell will rebound with the foam spring inside, inflating air and return to the original height.
