My final Project for the Msc. Serious Games and Virtual Reality Course was a proof of concept for a serious game intervention, on education for sustainable development. The mechanics were developed in line with learning objectives derived from climate change literature from the last 10 years. The game is a light hearted and simplified version of global warming, with a low poly and colourful visual style, all assets were created in house in 3ds max, photoshop, illustrator or substance and the final game was developed in Unity with C#.
The final project resulted in a serious game intervention which balances resource management with sustainable choices that generate greenhouse gas emissions. Players have to make it to the end of the countdown, without letting there thermometer reach 1.5 degrees Celsius, the game also ends if the players happiness gets depleted. As the game progresses, players are able to buy a variety of units that add different amounts of money and emissions. As the temperature rises, different hazards and risk related to global warming appear. Players can interact with some of these but not others.
This game is available to download and play through yourself if you feel like it, if not, there is a small game play trailer you can watch! Both are linked below.
