Parallel Hallucinations
For my dissertation project I aimed at digitising/emulating Altered States of Consciousness (ASC) via a virtual reality solution.
The experience is a 5 minute recreation of the room that the viewer sits in. To simulate the effects of hallucination I applied textures that slowly morphed through a Google Deep Dream algorithm, I was captivated by the similarities in which a human brain can hallucinate in parallel with that of an artificial neural network; this inspired the title of ‘parallel hallucinations’.
Auditory, temporal & visual hallucinations were included within the VR experience, utilising microphones as well as interactive materials that were manipulated based on the users head position.
The work was made using Unity, 3DS Max, with access to Tensorflows Inception v5 Deep Dream Model.
